There are
really two reasons for the idea of the `Game Locations` area
of webpage..
Firstly Pure nostalgia!,really a short story
of what we often would do to pass the time as kids (teens) in
the day when it was safe to walk the street in the evening,
there was no such thing as yob culture and life overall was a
lot less complicated.
After
school or during the weekend as teenagers we used to travel
to varying locations in the West Midlands just to play
coin-op videogames,cafe`s,fish and chip shops(fish bars),taxi
ranks as well as the usual arcades were hunting grounds for
us.
As we would approach some destinations such as fish bars we
could sometimes see the outline of the cabinet through the
windows and a feeling excitement would build as we realised
that the game had been changed, Our walk became a sprint as
we barge into the premisis and quickly encircle the
cabinet!....................................
AAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!! Not f***n "JAIL BREAK"
,sigh!
No seriously, it was not always like that but it could be an
emotional rollercoaster especially as we could walk fair
distances in all weather just to play them. The area
we would travel localy could be for example anywhere between
Birmingham and Wolverhampton including West Bromwich,Carters
Green,Greets Green,Great Bridge,Tipton,Dudley-Port,Heatley
Heath,Dudley,Handsworth amongst others.
Of course we were young then unaware of "BOOTLEGS" &
"CLONE" boards and switches for the settings were just rumors
or superstition.Remember we used to play games to record and
better our personal scores if the game appeared to display no
title on screen we would incorrectly presume that the
name on the cabinet marquee (name plate) was correct for the
game inside.
The second reason for the idea was to do something different
with my arcade collecting webpage, you can basically go
to any arcade collecting/collectors website and 90% of them
will be the same with schematics, dip switch settings, simular
links,etc.
I mean no disrespect to these people their webpages are
certainly more professional looking than mine! but the only
thing distinguishing their webpage from each others was the
template and personal, cabinet pictures.I wanted to have
something different in my my webpages and i knew i had good
ideas but had little knowlege of programing,or web
design.
In late 2004 i started to upload neat little game clips that
i had made to my webpage and KLOV (killer list of videogames)
and it was not long before i started to see these exact
animations appearing on other peoples forums and webpages. The
first was`Battle Atlantis` on Arcade 80`s forum (obviously
taken from KLOV).This i didnt mind I made the animation but i
cannot say it is mine as the game clearly is not mine to make
a clip of!.I thought well these clips could be an attraction
perhaps i could make a cinema type record of arcade games
were people could view clips that might be neat- but making
4000 game animations is not an ideal prospect. It just so
happens i had been compiling data of arcade games that
appeared in my local area for a while and decided to combine
the game clips with this idea.
But anyway the reasons aside as my cousin
`KAJ` has a pretty awsome memory and we both did keep
documentation from back then the lists of games will be very
accurate. The games will be listed not in order of appearance
but in alphabetical order - Jj
