CABINET PARTS

and Terminology

MARQUEE
The `name plate` at the top of a cab which displays the name of the game or with non dedicated jamma cabs the manufacturer or name of the cabinet. Marquees are very often `Back-lit`using strip lighting. An example of a marquee....

CP & CPO
`Control Panel` and `Control Panel Overlay` the control panel as the name suggests is the panel just below the screen/bezel area which houses the controls such as the joystick and fire buttons, this can be opened for maintenance (replacing buttons, contacts, etc).
Very often the control panel can have its own game artwork, this may come in the form of an overlay or transfer and is known as the `Control Panel Overlay`.As you can imagine original artwork can be rare and more often than not has to stripped from another scrap control panel/cabinet although you can find people who have the facility to `reproduce` cabinet art. (cool!)

COIN DOOR
As the name suggests this is the metal door under the control panel which contains the two coin slots in which you insert your money, often either shiny or black in appearance. Again these can be opened for maintenance as behind the coin slots are the `Coin Mechs`.

COIN MECHS
The coin mechanism distinguishes the inserted coin to be ether valid or not, if valid the coin drops straight through into the coin box(ching!) activating a switch for the credit as it does so. If not a valid coin or someone has inserted a bolt washer or something else it either drops into a separate lane in the mech and into the coin return chute or it will sit in a lane and when the `eject` button is pressed(normally part of the coin slot itself) the offending coin will be returned.

SIDE ART
sideart Again as the name suggests this is the artwork adorning the sides of the cabinet(if any). You will find that most `Dedicated` cabs have artwork of course which could consist of any thing from just the title of the game to `spectacular` art work depicting action from the game.

T-MOULDING
A plastic strip which lines the edge of most if not all cabinets, most cabs have a small groove which runs along the front facing edge of the two cabinet sides around 5mm wide and 10mm deep.
This is for T-moulding, looked at from one end the moulding is in the shape of the letter `T` (naturally). The vertical part of the `T` is inserted(or hammered!) into the groove for mainly cosmetic reasons but the wooden/chip board edges can be quite rough to the touch.
Black is the most common colour(color)and probably the easiest to obtain.
