ARCADE CABINETS (Cabs)

CABINETS (TYPES)

cocktail Cocktail cabs are normally 2-2.5ft tall, two players can sit either side with the display changing (180°) to face each player as their turn arrives.
This table has `STERN` printed in red on the side suggesting this to be a cocktail version of the classic `BERZERK`

cockpit Cockpits are units you can sit inside, you can tell from this picture that this cockpit could be separated turning the cabinet into an `Upright`
(usefully to save space).
This is another classic game`POLE POSITION` pole position

cabaret Cabarets are around 3/4 the size of a full upright and a little leaner. The general idea being that more could be lined up side by side in an arcade.
(more games=more money) ;) .This is yet another classic game`GORF`

gorf

upright Uprights are possibly the cabinet we all remember in arcades although we didn't really care at that time did we?,we just wanted to play the games.
This is an unusual but well known game called `Q-BERT`

Just a few other things to mention if you want to collect, really a few points regarding availability parts, etc!:
1) Not all cabinet families will be identical, you may get different sizes in either cabarets, uprights, cocktails and cockpits because of the individual manufacturers designs.
2) Cocktails and cabarets have smaller monitors (screens) fitted than uprights, thus they may be a little harder to obtain if you need a replacement. Also cocktails have a glass top on which you would rest your drink while playing (something most collectors would not dream of doing now).
Getting replacement glass cut to size is not a problem but replacing artwork transferred or attached to the glass could be a different matter. Although glass can be broken or cracked in any cabinet i feel personally that cocktails being `flat` are more vulnerable.
3) There are some other obscure types of cabs which were designed to be `hung` on the wall or of course you get the `sit down` motorbike games and `hydraulic` rocking cabs (like some versions of `Space Harrier`).
A personal favorite of mine is the `DURAMOULD` cabs manufactured by WILLIAMS,some titles they released` BLASTER` and `BUBBLES` for example would be released in `normal wooden cabinet` and a lesser quantity in the plastic duramold cabinet.
These cabs are amazing and i don't think i will ever get to see one in the UK.sad
If your curious very quickly visit DURAMOLD.COM (the rounded cabs in top image, nice!)
